“There’s something disturbing about recalling a warm memory and feeling utterly cold.”

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

It’s times like this that I’m thankful I don’t love movies because had I seen this on the big screen before reading the book, I would have been disappointed because we all know books are 10000% better than movies. Thankfully, I went into reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, having no idea what I was getting myself into, and holy cow, it was incredible! Gone Girl features just the right amount of suspense, mystery, murder, and a plot twist to keep you hanging on and guessing.

Gone Girl Story Summary

On Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary, Amy mysteriously disappears. Having been uprooted from her hometown of New York City to the rural town of North Carthage, Missouri, Amy wasn’t thrilled to have to move back to help care for Nick’s ill mother.

Though the couple appears happy to others, there is much to uncover inside their marriage. So many questions must be answered, and so many lies must be exposed.

Each year, Amy sends him on a treasure hunt for their anniversary, so again, he seeks the clues this year, hoping it will bring him answers to where Amy disappeared. With Amy gone, Nick becomes the center of the investigation into her disappearance as the story gains nationwide media attention. Evidence begins to accumulate against Nick, and without a solid alibi, he quickly becomes the prime suspect.

But did he do it? Did he kill Amy? Did he get her to disappear?

The interrogations of Nick bring dark secrets forth.
So many questions need to be answered.
So many possibilities need to be explored.

Where did Amy go?
Only time will tell.

And for the ending, that is a whole story in itself. Flynn leaves us hanging on, just a bit hopeful of a sequel. Will it happen? We shall see!

Gone Girl Review

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is easily one of the best novels I’ve read, with thoroughly developed characters and a plot twist that will leave you hanging onto your seat. It was a novel two years in the making, and it shows! Flynn’s brilliance shines through in this mysterious, suspenseful novel. The thought that went into both the plot and its twist are mindblowing. I am convinced Gone Girl truly will be one of the best books I will read this year.

Gone Girl Final Thoughts

If you are someone who likes thrillers, mystery, crime, and suspense; I truly believe you will love this book. The plot twist is unlike any other I’ve seen, and once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down! Bravo, Gillian Flynn for a work of brilliance!
