Book Review: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

February 8, 2023

Once I get a good book in my hand, sleep is nonexistent. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover left me sleepless for two nights because I couldn’t put it down. What can I say, being a busy mom, sometimes I only have time to read at night after the kids are in bed. Anyway, I highly recommend you read a CoHo book if you haven’t yet! Her books are so good, will leave you with so many emotions, and are easy to finish in a day or two.

“It’s the beautiful moments like this that make up for the ugly love”

Title Story Summary

Tate Collins moved from San Diego to San Francisco to live with her brother, Corbin, while in nursing school. Corbin is an airline pilot and a bit overprotective of his little sister. Through Corbin, Tate meets Miles Archer, her brother’s co-pilot. It was anything but love at first sight when Miles was drunk, calling for a girl named Rachel.

After spending more time together through mutual friends and her brother, Tate begins to come around to Miles, and their attraction for each other grows. From the beginning, their relationship is mutually physical, as Miles is highly private and Tate is focused on her nursing career.

It’s about this time in the book when we return to Miles’ high school days and get the scoop on Rachel. With a jam-packed history with Rachel, Miles is still determining how he will move beyond the past.

Tate senses there is more to Miles’ story than what he is leading on, which results in Miles finding Rachel and getting closure to their situation. Once  closure is sought, Miles opens up to Tate, telling her about his past and genuinely giving her his heart for the first time.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover Review

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite CoHo books! Unlike Verity, it is more of a romance book than a suspense novel, but it is great nonetheless.

In the beginning, I was confliced on Tate and Miles’ relationship. I wasn’t sure why Miles was so closed-off and reserved, but once Hoover flashes back to Miles’ past and informs us of what he has been through, his character begins to shift in the eyes of the reader.

As with most other Colleen Hoover books, such as It Starts with Us, the ending ties the entire plot together in a beautiful and seamless way.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover Final Thoughts

If you have yet to read a Colleen Hoover book, Ugly Love is a great option. This book gives you a sense of Hoover’s writing style, her character development, and the type of plot twist to expect. Overall, it’s really good!
